ABOUT US

      Kodaikanal Society for the Protection and Care for Animals (KSPCA) is a registered AWO/NGO and recognized by the Animal Welfare Board of India. The year 2016 marked as the 40th year of recognition of the organization. The Objective of the organization is the prevention and suppression of cruel and improper treatment of animals and the amelioration of their condition throughout Kodaikanal and other parts of the district. KSPCA was estimated to be founded in the 1930s as the Kodaikanal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. However, and due to requirement that there can be only one Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals per district we had a name change to the Kodaikanal Society for the Protection and Care for Animals(KSPCA). Our goal and vision has always been the same and we are one of the oldest organizations in the country. KSPCA has been honored and given membership in FIAPO in the year 2016 for the work we have done.

Our projects have been the rescue of domestic animals and wildlife in emergencies.

We also participate in disaster management and rescue (the 2015 Chennai floods – Chennai animal rescue (CAR) , forest fires, Kerala ,Kodagu floods, Gaja cyclone). We provide on the spot emergency treatments , ABC(Animal birth control), medical camps for animals, fostering and adoptions, street dog feeding, outreach programs on waste management, outreach program on compassionate animal welfare, man animal conflict, conservation and protection of Fauna and Flora in and across the state along with esteemed organization PHCC. We have been focusing on the man-animal conflict issues and regularly visit villages along with the forest department. Alongside schools and colleges we promote local indigenous varieties to be planted in and around Kodaikanal and also do clean ups around forest and river areas .Our focus has been to do wildlife rescues when needed; we have also worked with rescue and proper care and management of captive private elephants from the year 2016. The year 2017-18 KSPCA did ABC/ARV on 501 dogs in Kodaikanal town and just ARV for over 1000 dogs in palani hills. We also went beyond our target of doing regular equine medical camps for working equines not only in Kodaikanal town but across the palani hills and Dindigul district. .
